Online shopping has become increasingly popular in recent years, with the effect of the pandemic. The increase in demand for online shopping has led to a significant increase in the number of e-commerce users and those who want to do so. A natural consequence of this situation was the increase in the number of sellers opening stores on e-commerce sites and the increase in competition. As such, the search for new online marketplaces for sellers emerged. At this point, an important marketplace emerges, especially for those who want to sell abroad: ETSY. So, what is required to sell and open a store on Etsy? What products can be sold on Etsy? How to sell on Etsy worldwide? We will find answers to many questions in this article.
What is Etsy?
Etsy is a global marketplace for unique and creative products. It is an e-commerce platform where special and interesting products are sold, from unique handmade pieces to antiques. Etsy aims to keep products with a human touch at the center of commerce in today’s world of automation. Therefore, we can say that it is the world’s leading marketplace platform for handmade products.
Since its founding in 2005, Etsy has grown into one of the world’s largest online marketplaces. According to 2020 data, more than 4.3 million of the 54 million members on Etsy are sellers. There are also over 50 million unique items listed for sale.
What products can you sell on Etsy?
The most important feature that distinguishes Etsy from other e-commerce webshops is that not every product can be sold. Etsy offers a marketplace for crafters, artists, and collectors to sell their handmade items, antiques (at least 20 years old), and craft supplies, handmade or not. Therefore, the sales of your products that do not fall into this category are not allowed by Etsy.

Is It Free to List Products on Etsy?
It is free to open a store and start to sell on Etsy. In addition, there are three main cuts. These are listing fees, commission, and payment processing fees. There is also an advertising fee for sales from off-site ads. Therefore, listing products on Etsy is paid.
You have to pay $0.20 to list the product for each product you will sell on this marketplace. After this payment, your product will continue to be listed for four months or until the product is sold. After selling an item, a 5% commission is deducted from the selling price (on the price including shipping). If you receive payments through Etsy Payments, however, a 3% + $0.25 payment processing fee is deducted when an item is sold.
You can review the Etsy Fees article to analyze the fees on Etsy in detail.
